TED Talks can elicit many emotions when you watch them. There’s a seeming power in them that propels an intellectual adrenaline rush that can engender excitement about possible future endeavors.
Perhaps you’re familiar with TED Talks and have watched them in school or perhaps your mother suggested you watch one of them? Viewing TED Talks can be an informative, inspiring, and motivating way to spend your time. Due to the ubiquity of TED Talks, there are subjects of interest for just about everyone. Whether you need some advice on how to deal with stressful situations, curious about the newest scientific theory/technological breakthrough, or you need a quick life hack, there is probably a TED Talk about it.
TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) was established in 1984 by Richard Saul Wurman and Harry Marks as a forum where technology, entertainment, and design could all meet, assist and influence each other. The first event consisted of demonstrations of a compact disc, e-book, and 3D graphics, while mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot introduced the concept of mapping coastlines using his theory of fractal geometry.
Despite being considered successful today, the organization did not start off well. The first talk was held in Monterey, California with only three hundred people in attendance. The event lost money and it took the founders six years to be able to afford another.
Since then, TED has turned into something interesting and inspiring to all, with an array of talks on different subjects that help navigate all sorts of life situations. It can be common to have moments of confusion, worry or sometimes you just feel stuck in a rut. Did I choose the right career path? Could I have been happier doing something else? Is it normal to feel this way?
While those can be standard fears and worries, few enjoy the anxiety that is often coupled with them. Luckily, there are TED Talks to guide you through those moments. Playlists titled “Talks to watch when you don’t know what to do with your life” and “Talks for when you feel totally burned out” or if you’re having a bad day, there are the playlist “Charming talks for a boost on a bad day”. This is just a few the many TED Talks playlists with many more on these topics.
TED Talks may not miraculously make everything better, but they may help you cope with stresses. It’s comforting to know there are many out there who feel similar. The talks themselves were intended to give advice on creating a whole new mindset to tackle issues. No matter the topic of the talk, there’s always an inspiring message being told.
TED Talks are not only helpful to adults with an existential crisis; there are talks about raising children as well! It is every parent’s dream to be the best parent possible and TED Talks can help fill in gaps where one may need some assistance. A lot of these talks are given by parents, with their own litany of playlist topics that can help people reach their parenting potential. Not only is there the playlist named “Advice to help you be a great parent”, but also a series of talks about inspiring your child to be a lifelong reader and how to raise successful kids. In addition, there are talks that provide direct help with specialized problems, such as having “the talk” with your children.
Moreover, there are also talks geared towards families that can create some quality bonding time. This is not limited to only listening to talks that are labeled as family friendly, feel free to search through all of the options! Making a family night out of listening and learning could be beneficial as well. As a whole you can become more educated on pressing matters, laugh, and learn about a topic that is of interest to your children.
TED Talks can be a quick and effective way to gain a new perspective on a variety of topics. There are talks on controversial topics like global health or education policy. If you desire to watch a rags to riches story, it’s out there. If you are interested in watching a life hack, like how to be a better public speaker or how to better understand body language, you can spend hours doing so.
It is beneficial to know that there is a TED Talk for everyone. The fascinating thing about the vast subjects of the talks is an ability to put you into others’ shoes. It may even provide a mindset that could help you navigate everyday life. No matter whom you are or what your circumstances are, a TED speaker has been there and is able to provide entertaining, useful advice anyone can enjoy.
